Congratulations to Merrifields resident Lynde Foye and Eden Salon and Spa stylist Jessica Wade, winners in a national makeover contest. "She Speaks" is an online forum where women review and rate products. Participants can view and vote on the salon makeovers. Jessica used Matrix Biolage products to give first-time client Lynde highlights, lowlights and a deep conditioning treatment. Eden was one of only two Virginia salons selected by Matrix Biolage to test their new products. More than 2,000 "She Speaks" voters agreed Jessica's services were worthy of first-place. Matrix corporate educator Yvette Jones visited the Tyre Neck Road shop two weeks ago to present a new iPad to both Jessica and Lynde. Eden Salon and Spa is owned by the husband-and-wife team of Dan and Gina Gillis and is no stranger to awards. In the 3' years it's been open, the shop has amassed 30 wins in multiple categories in The Pilot's annual "Best of" contest for Portsmouth and Your Corner. Hurricane Irene rained on the birthday party Linda Saunders planned for her shop, Sadielin Antiques and Collectibles. The celebration of the shop's first year was to be an outside affair, with food and music provided by the Pridemore band, favorites at the nearby Barrel restaurant. Linda says the 12 months have been fun and that she's building regular clientele. In addition to antique furniture, costume jewelry has been a big seller. The shop will move to fall/winter hours beginning Sept. 19 - from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. She takes a break on Sundays. Sadielin is at 5846 Churchland Boulevard, in the strip mall near Planet Fitness.
